Community Games received an invitation from the President of the Olympic Council of Ireland, Mr Pat Hickey to nominate a child from Community Games to participate in the Olympic Torch Relay on June 6th. In the interests of fairness, it was decided to have a draw amongst all the Counties and Carlow was the winner.

Representatives from any Area/Community wishing to affiliate for 2012 should attend e.g. Interested Parents, Sports Coaches, Youth Leaders, Teacher’s & Volunteers.

TAG U 11: The County tag u 11 finals where held last Sunday in Rafeennan and what a display of tag rugby it was all 4 teams playing some outstanding tag rugby Donagh,Magheracloon,Tydavnet and Kilmore drumsnatt took to the field, After each team played each other it ended up a Donagh  Magheracloone final and what a final it wasthe leed swung from side to side until the last second of the match when Magheracloone scored the winning try and took the houners hard luck to Donagh in this epic final.Magheracloone should be worthy condenders in Ulster and the all Irelands. Clare Community Games had a break from county competitions this weekend as all their interest was focused on the HSE National Community Games media awards which  were held in Athlone where local press & radio received a total of 4  awards for their continued support and coverage of the Community Games in Clare. The Clare Champion won 3, Clare FM 1 and Mary Phelan & Kevin O’Loughlin received pro awards. Congratulations to both you and Declan, well done. The next competition is on this fri evening with the volleyball in colaiste muire ennis.

The HSE Community Games Media Awards were held in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone, Co Westmeath on Saturday 28th April 2012. John Treacy, Chief Executive Officer of the Irish Sports Council presented the National and Regional Media with their highly coveted awards. Speaking to the guests including Paddy McCaul, President of the FAI, Dr Ailis Brosnan, HSE, Dympna Bracken, HSE and Mary Goode, AIT, John Treacy congratulated the Media for their support of the Community Games organisation and also paid tribute to the Community Games volunteers for their dedication and looked forward to building further links between the organisations.
