TOMMY BOWE - RUGBY STAR

Picture
Spot Tommy!!

Tommy Bowe might be famous for being an Irish rugby union player from Monaghan and playing on the wing for Ulster, Ireland and the British and Irish Lions, but all that pales in comparison to his crowning moment when he won a silver medal in Mosney for the 4 * 100m Relay in the Aldi Community Games!!

We are so proud of Tommy and all he has achieved in his sporting career and we are very fortunate that he sat down to answer a few questions for us!!

When you were younger, who was your sporting hero?
Simon Geoghegan the Irish rugby winger was always my idol growing up

When did you first realise you had a talent for Rugby?
I always enjoyed rugby as a sport but never realized I had a talent until I left school around 18.
What advice would you give to young people who have an interest in playing Rugby?
I would encourage them to try lots of sports and find out which is their favorite.  Playing other sports will help in rugby as you pick up skills in every sport that come in useful.
Do you think there is a link between sport/physical activity, eating well and feeling good about yourself?
Yes, I think its very important to have a healthy lifestyle. Trying to eat healthy and even a small amount of exercise is a very good way to keep a smile on your face.
Have you any tips for young people who have sporting dreams as big as you had?
Never in a million years would I have thought I'd get the chance to play for my country or the Lions but I dreamed about it all the time.  It shows that when you have a dream of what you want to achieve and you combine it with training and hard work, your dream can come true!
What did it feel like to get picked for the Lions?
It was probably the happiest moment of my career!. With the injuries I had last season I knew it was going to be very difficult to get back playing in time to be selected but when I did, it was an amazing feeling.
What is your fondest memory of taking  part in Community Games?
I have many great memories of the Community Games, from competing in the local games in Monaghan to winning a silver medal in the 4*100m relay in Mosney.  It was a great part of growing up!
