John Treacy
"Community Games has a huge role to play in the future of sporting in Ireland."
John Treacy
John Treacy is the current CEO of Sport Ireland and chairman of Concern. He is a silver medal winner at the Olympics and a gold winner at Community Games!
John Treacy ran 12km to school every day in Cappoquin Co. Waterford - and it just goes to show that practice makes perfect. He came first in 1973 in the U16 1500m in Mosney - and we have the footage to proof it (shaky as it is!)
John won the first of his two successive World Cross Country Championships in Glasgow in 1978. In 1979 Treacy retained his World Cross Country title in front of 25,000 spectators at Limerick Racecourse.
Not to sit idly by as the years progressed - he had another victory in 1993 when he ran 2:14.40 to win the Dublin Marathon.
