HSE Community Games Healthy Events Award 2014
What is it?
The HSE Health Promotion Service has worked in partnership with the Community Games since 2006. The purpose of the Healthy Events Award is to encourage Community Games Areas, through their events, to use creative, sustainable ways to impact positively on the health of the wider community (participants, volunteers and their families).
Who can apply?
All registered Community Games Areas are eligible to enter. Any Area can apply, no matter what their size. Application forms will be available on the Community Games website from Monday 25th November. Closing date for receipt of application is the 31st January 2014.
What do we have to do?
To be in contention for the Award, an Area must show that their events are health promoting. Ideas on how this can be done will be available on the Community Games website. Areas may choose their own ideas too. The ideas will cover a range of different health topics. Evidence that an Area’s events have been health promoting on an
ongoing basis during 2014 must be provided by August 31st 2014. Criteria for the submission of evidence will be available on the Community Games website.
How will it be judged?
The “Healthy Events Award” will be judged by a panel of HSE Health Promotion Representatives, Community Games Representatives and independent representatives. Area size, population, amount of registered volunteers and the amount of participants in the Area will be taken into consideration at the time of judging. Sustainability of actions taken to make events health promoting will be a key feature of the judging process.
What’s the prize?
There will be three awards for the top areas. Gold €1250, Silver, €1000, Bronze, €750. In addition, prizes of up to €500 may be awarded to other Areas judged to have made a worthy effort to improve health promoting aspects of the events. Winners of the Healthy Events Award will be showcased at a National Community Games event.
