GAA Alcohol & Substance Abuse Prevention Conference

The first GAA Alcohol & Substance Abuse Prevention Conference is taking place on Saturday 27th March 2010 in Croke Park from 9:30am until 2:00pm.

This conference will present essential information for club members who want to find out how to prevent, educate and respond to alcohol and other drug related issues in their own community.

The day will consist of presentations from
-Joe Connolly (All Ireland winning hurler)
-Christy Cooney (An t-Uachtarn GAA)
-Brendan Murphy (ASAP Programme Coordinator)
-John Curran TD (Minister of State for the National Drugs Strategy)
-Susan Kenny (HSE - Less Pints, More Points Programme)

There will also be a number of interactive workshops...

-Getting it right: Developing a workable Club Drug & Alcohol Policy (Diarmuid Gowen, GAA)
-Legally High? Headshop drugs, what are they? (Sinead OMahony Carey, HSE)
-Raising the Issue: How to talk to people about alcohol/drugs (Eamon OKane NWAF)
-In the know: Arranging a drug/alcohol education event in your club. (John Leahy, HSE)
-Off the ball! Addressing health & lifestyle issues with players (Aileen Tohill, GAA)

The conference will be followed by lunch at 2:00pm.

The attendance fee of 25 covers all handouts, materials, tea/coffee and lunch.
